Boys’ Life (BSA)

So my daughter comes home from school today with a copy of the September 2011 edition of Boys’ Life, the Boy Scouts of America magazine, for her little brother.

She meant well. We have not had the conversation yet about how our family is not welcome in the BSA organization.  That conversation is coming soon.

I went to put the magazine in the recycling and I turn it over.  Guess who is emblazoned on the back cover in all of his green awesomeness promoting the goodness of milk?

GREEN LANTERN

Sometimes the irony glows green.

Thank you DC Comics.

My 5 year old son just saw this image. He asked which was the real family. I replied that all of them are real families.  We went through all of the families finishing up with the Doctor family.  He knows enough about Doctor Who to know it’s a tv show. Then we talked about how families don’t have to have children to be families.
His response.  ”Ok.”
Ok, because it really is ok for not all families to be exactly the same.

Both Colfer and Murphy, they’re speaking directly to young people. … The real difference is that Chris Colfer is a terrific writer and Ryan Murphy can’t write worth a darn.
